Sharp Knife: A must-have for slicing fish, avocado, and other toppings with precision.
Sushi Mat (Optional): Handy for shaping the sushi rice base, but not essential if you’re using a pizza pan.
Pizza Pan or Baking Sheet: To form and hold the sushi rice base in place.
Rice Cooker: Ensures perfectly cooked sushi rice every time, saving effort and guaranteeing consistency.
Non-Stick Spatula: Makes spreading the rice evenly over the pan a mess-free task.
Mandoline Slicer: Great for achieving thin, uniform slices of cucumber or other veggies.
Small Sauce Bottle: For creating clean, decorative drizzles of spicy mayo or soy sauce.
For the Base
- 2 cups cooked sushi rice
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
For the Toppings
- 4 ounces sushi-grade salmon or tuna thinly sliced
- 1/2 avocado sliced or diced
- 1 sheet nori cut into small strips
- 2 tablespoons spicy mayo mix mayonnaise with a touch of sriracha
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds white or black, for garnish
- 1/4 cup diced cucumber
- Optional: tobiko or masago for extra texture
For Assembly
- Soy sauce for drizzling or dipping
- Pickled ginger and wasabi optional sides
Prepare the Sushi Rice
Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch.
Cook the rice according to the package instructions or in a rice cooker for perfect results.
In a small bowl, mix rice vinegar, sugar, and salt until dissolved, then gently fold it into the cooked rice. Let the rice cool to room temperature.
Shape the Pizza Base
Line a pizza pan or baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
Spread the seasoned sushi rice evenly into a circular pizza shape, about 1/2 inch thick. Use a spatula or your hands (dipped in water to prevent sticking).
Place the rice base in the refrigerator for 15–20 minutes to set.
Assemble the Toppings
Carefully layer thin slices of sushi-grade fish or your chosen alternative on the rice base.
Arrange avocado, cucumber, and nori strips artistically across the surface.
Drizzle spicy mayo and soy sauce over the pizza for added flavor.
Serve and Enjoy
Use a sharp knife to slice the sushi pizza into wedges, just like a traditional pizza.
Serve immediately with soy sauce for dipping and enjoy the fusion of flavors!
